Once you’ve dropped off your bike, it will soon find its way to our workshop. All the bikes we receive are assessed by our talented team of mechanics. One of three things could happen to your bike:
- A lot of bikes are given directly to a refugee or person seeking asylum, after our mechanics give them some TLC, and you should receive an email/text with some information on who it was donated to.
- If it's a fancier bike that could have a higher resale value, we might opt to sell it in our bike shop. It costs around £100 for us to refurbish and get a bike to someone on our waiting list. If we could sell your bike for £300, it makes sense to do that and get bikes to three people instead of just one. You'll also receive an email/text when this happens.
- Sometimes the bikes are deemed unsalvageable by our technicians. We try to minimise what we send to landfill so, in this case, we'd take apart the donated bike and use what we can to build up other bikes. Unfortunately we can't track individual parts so, if you don't receive an email/text about where your bike has ended up, this is the most likely reason. Sort of like an organ donor for bikes!
